Perfect Tzatziki Sauce

I took to Google the other day to research tzatziki sauce.  I have been making the same recipe for years, but I was curious to see how other recipes varied from my own.  One of the first things that popped up in my search was a discussion on Chowhound with the title “Help! My tzatziki sucks!”  I had quite a chuckle over that one.  I do not know why.  I am sure that the person whose tzatziki sauce sucked did not find it very funny.

To whoever it was that was having a tzatziki-related disaster, have no fear.  This tzatziki sauce is perfect.  I mix full-fat Greek yogurt and a bit of sour cream with cucumber, garlic, and dill to make the best and easiest tzatziki sauce that I have ever tasted.  Use this sauce as a dip for carrots, celery, or toasted pita chips.  Or spoon it over chicken or shrimp.  It adds something cool and creamy to anything.

Perfect Tzatziki Sauce

Yield 2 cups
Meal type Marinades & Sauces

Ingredients

  • 1 tablespoon chopped dill
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 tablespoon extra-virgin olive oil
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 1 hothouse cucumber, grated and squeezed dry with paper towels
  • 2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
  • 1 tablespoon champagne vinegar
  • 16oz plain Greek yogurt
  • Kosher salt
  • Freshly ground black pepper

Directions

1. Combine the yogurt, sour cream, cucumber, lemon juice, vinegar, olive oil, dill, and garlic in a large bowl. Season with salt and pepper, to taste. Cover with plastic wrap and chill in the refrigerator for at least 3 hours.

I love tzatziki sauce! And it’s easy to make, although it’s been some time since I’ve done it. Your recipe looks particularly nice – I’ll have to give it a try. Thanks.

i love tatziki sauce. I swear I was greek in another life. haha. I use it for everything. In place of salad dressing…mix up your salad with a tablespoon or more. Yum….and tonight tried something new….put it in my baked potato with feta cheese OMG this was scrumptious. Thanks for sharing.
